Team Manager
I think it is a diverse borough and it is culturally diverse. I’d say it’s an exciting place to work, no two days are ever the same and I think if you want a challenge, and if you want to work with people and you want to learn everyday, it’s the place to be. I think you do have time to do your personal work, but you get out there in the community and you do meet people. So it’s definitely something that’s for those who like to be challenged.
A very high level of support is what we get on a daily basis, we have regular supervision, both myself with senior managers and myself with staff and we all operate an open door policy so anybody comes to you anytime. There's a feeling of that you could go to anyone at any time if your manager’s not available, which is really helpful and I think there’s a good team spirit so we all generally will talk about a case, get advice, and that feels really good. There's also panels in place where you can sound off and discuss a case and get some advice and there's a good feeling there because you don’t feel like you're being judged, you’re actually genuinely just allowed to reflect on the case and get advice.
During my time in Haringey there's a really positive feeling, we’ve got permanent staff in place, we've got a good workforce and it feels really good to have permanent staff members. There's also, everybody’s got personal development plans and everybody’s really committed. I’ve noticed also that the social workers have case load management so they’ve only got a certain amount of cases and that feels really good for them, because they can manage their work and we have regular supervision.
I'm looking forward to the fact that I study through Haringey and that’s really good and I find Haringey’s really supportive around my study and they give me time off to do my studies and they also give me the opportunity to do my research, which is really positive because that’s something I'm really interested in, in safeguarding. I also find the flexible hours helps my personal life, because I am able to take my son to school, I'm able to get in for an appointment and that feels really good, there's definitely a sense of supporting each other in the team and also the fact that your ideas are listened to, that you can sound off and really bounce off ideas from each other. In our team we have people with diverse interests, everybody’s interested in different aspects of work, social work and what we find is that we all listen to each other and encourage each other and we’re all able to take on different aspects of work in community, some are working with children’s centres, some are becoming involved in policy and procedures, and that is why you should really consider coming to Haringey.
